The beginning of the Holocaust began on January 30th 1933, which is when Hitler became Chancellor. The Holocaust ended on May 8th 1945, which is also when the war in Europe ended. This event took place over twelve years. Before Hitler came into play, World War One had ended and with that came great tragedy for many people. After WWI, Germany was struck with many financial problems. In 1929, the Great Depression was caused from a very brutal stock market crash. It had affected the whole world. People did not have enough money to live their daily lives, and millions of people were out of jobs, leaving the unemployment rate at twenty five percent. Even worse, in the early 1930's the German unemployment rate was at a staggering 42%. Then in 1932 Paul Von Hindenburg was re- elected, and appointed Adolf Hitler as Chancellor of Germany. As Chancellor, Hitler convinced the German people that he was their savior, and that he was going to get them out of debt and get their jobs back. With this very persuasive promise, the people of Germany not only trusted Hitler, but admired and loved him as well.
