On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany by President Paul Von Hindenburg. Before being elected Chancellor, Hitler was the leader of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, or Nazi Party. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the Nazi party was a "program called for German abandonment of the Treaty of Versailles and for the expansion of German territory." This means that the Nazis wanted out of the treaty between the Germans and the Allied Forces ending World War One. The Nazis also wanted to expand the German territory, gaining more followers. Hitler went to his first meeting with the Nazis in 1919, when the organization was formed. In 1921, Hitler became leader of the group and renamed it. It's original name, the German Workers’ Party, was changed to the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
Hitler created a group in 1922 called the Hitler Youth. The children in this organization were very disciplined and would do anything for Hitler. Even give their own life. The Hitler Youth group started out with just a little over one thousand, but by 1940, the Hitler Youth had over 8 million members. Once the Americans got involved in WWII, Hitler started recruiting 12 year old boys onto the battlefield. Only a very few had survived. The Hitler Youth ended in 1945 when it was disbanded by Allied authorities as part of the De-Nazification process.
